...may sound very silly but was thinking it's time for me to cash in on the diet book craze and write a beer diet. What I'm doing is I eat rice/legumes/vegetables/oats and avoids oils, gluten (and anything nonvegan), anything too sugary, and caffeine.

And then when I just really badly want to eat something that's not good for me, I have a beer. Or two. Studies have shown people who drink one to two alcoholic drinks per day live longer than teetotalers. And this one to two per day is maybe 350 calories, as opposed to me probably easily knocking down 1000 calories instead of some oily processed, unhealthy food. A beer or two takes the edge off and I'm able to continue eating healthy. Smile

I feel kind of stupid mentioning this but it really actually is working.

Little bit funny. Smile Pretty nice looking lady BTW.

Actually, I deal with a lot of alcoholics going through withdrawal at work and I really have noticed they're usually pretty thin. That may be because many really are homeless of course. And it wasn't what inspired this idea of mine... I don't think....

Oh yes, that got me to wondering why I did this in the first place. It was the Tarahumara (sp) Indians. Famed for their ability to run long distances, and also very heavy drinkers. I noticed I seemed to run a tad better if I drank a little. That's what got me into this.

So then, there was a small not peer reviewed study in Runner's World where they took 5 men and 5 women and tried to see how some beer drinking affected their running. It appeared to help the women and hurt the men.

The thing is beer has hops in it. And hops are loaded wtih estrogen. They decrease libido. And they make you fall asleep.

After many months of drinking beer each night, I switched to wine, and lo and behold my... eh, "libido" really did suddenly improve. And you know, had a couple of good runs also... OTOH, I don't sleep as well.

I'm brewing some non-hopped beer right now. ("Gruit beer") Just using lemon for a preservative in the place of hops. (One can use a lot of other herbs and spice but I'm a tad lazy.)

A standard wine bottle holds four glasses of wine.
That's one for you and one for your significant other at dinner.
Then one each at bed time...
...Do the math.

"...OTOH, I don't sleep as well."

A small price to pay.

Too expensive I know. Have been trying to make my own wine. Hasn't worked out very well though.

Making really fine wine at home is difficult, but making drinkable wine isn't too hard, nor is it expensive. I've estimated that my homemade wine costs about a dollar and a half a bottle. As we speak there's twelve gallons of apple-mead (Cyser) aging in the cellar

A good book on wine making is Jeff Cox's "Vines Into Wines."

Thank you. I will check into that. Somehow I think making one's own wine is just awesome basically.
