PostSubject: Checking In From Central NY - USA   Wed Nov 11, 2009 1:20 pm

Hello everyone, just checking in from Central NY State - USA. Hope everyone is doing well, I just finished my first Natural Bodybuilding Competition this past Saturday, took 3rd place in the Masters 40 Class. Had a blast, and learned alot.

Now I'm fighting the post contest water bloat - lower legs are hit the worse because I have a desk job, but ABS are covered with some water too. I have chosen to take the week off from all training, but will begin again on Sunday with a "break-in" week. Then I will do a mini-cut diet to get rid of the water and any fat accumulated from eating some junk food. Then Jan 3 I will begin LEAN MASS training to pack on some muscle, now that I don't have to fight to get rid of tons of fat. I *MAY* compete again next November *IF* I can cut up using a higher carb diet, the low carb diet I used for this contest was a nightmare on me, my family, and work.

One thing I have learned recently is that our Protein requirements are no where near as high as I have had them (210g per day), so I just may turn over to the Good Side and begin a true Vegan diet...stay tuned!

I'll post some contest pics.

Take care,

-Tom

Have you read the diet stuff by Clarence Bass - he managed to cut up to a crazy degree well into his 60's using high carbs you can check out his site here He's not a vegan, but is a low animal products eater, so it would be easy to convert the eating routine to a vegan one. I quite rate Bass as he really has been there/done that type of guy, he's been a national class weightlifter, bodybuilder & strength guy in his lifetime, so he knows his stuff when it comes to training.
About the water issues, that sounds hormonal to me. Being dieted down may have unbalanced you a little, I wouldn't worry. I'd include a little healthy fat & maybe a touch of saturated fat (like from coconut oil or palm oil - palm oil from orang-utan friendly companies!) just to up the male hormone production a touch (when your fat drops below a certain level - which is different for everyone it can affect hormone production, so now you're eating normally it sounds like your male hormones aren't kicking in quite as quickly as your other hormones, it'll soon balance out in a little while).
That's not a diagnosis, just a guess by the way!
I'd also increase your water intake as that will help as well.
Welcome to the group by the way, it's great to be getting a few more competitors onboard - by the way ace avatar, is that you onstage during your contest?

Ahoy, Central NY.
What part of Central NY?
I used to live in the Syracuse/Cortland area, and worked in Binghamton.
Good work on your body building...
...and by the way, about your abs...?
I hate you.
...But I'll probably get over it.

I'm from Cortland, but now live in North Syracuse.

I lived in Labrador Valley, east of Tully, across the road from Tinker's Falls for many years. Taught at Syracuse, and SUNY Cortland.
I miss the area, but not in the winter.
